Having a child is a joy and blessing but can also be stressful, especially when that child has special needs. Below is a list of resources to provide you with support when you need it. If you would like to meet other parents in our area with children who have similar special needs as your child, please contact us. We will try to arrange it, or you can go to our connecting with others puzzle piece to your left to see if there is anyone with your child's condition. If there isn't we would ask you to please consider being on that list. Some helpful emotional and social organizations can be found below.

The Carr Center Parents of Children with Special Needs Support Group . This group meets monthly, focusing on different issues with special speakers and information relating to special needs parenting.

Zanesville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church offers:

1) Friendship Parties: monthly fun times for children with disabilities and their families.
2) Mothers Support Group: meets during the Friendship Parties.
3) Friendship Youth Group: monthly Sunday evening meetings to provide opportunities for teens with disabilities to enjoy typical teen fun.

Genesis Hospice offers grief support groups in Zanesville as well as Malta and Perry County. They also offer a grief support and education program for children ages 5-17 (HUGS).

Six County offers counseling and other mental health services in Muskingum, Coshocton, Guernsey, Morgan, Noble, and Perry counties. Thompkins Child and Adolescent Services offers mental health services in Zanesville. There number is (740) 454-0738 or toll free at (800) 844-4146.

Each School System usually has a school psychologist who may be able to offer some assistance. Contact your local School District.

Parents Helping Parents PHP is a 30-year-old nonprofit, family resource center that benefits children with special needs. Family Voices is an organization of families and friends of CYSHCN advocating for healthcare services that are family-centered, community-based, comprehensive, coordinated, and culturally competent. Their website offers a variety of information to assist families of CYSHCN.
