Your child may need occupational therapy, physical therapy, or speech therapy to help them overcome their developmental limitations. Below please find information regarding the goals of each type of therapy. We have also included a list of local providers for these therapies. In general, for children younger than three years, Help Me Grow is helpful to arrange services. After age three years, you local school district is responsible for providing an evaluation and Individualized Educational Plan (IEP.)
- Occupational therapy (OT) helps children achieve independence. It focuses on fine motor difficulties, oral/feeding problems, self care skills, positioning for function, visual motor and visual perceptual skills.
- Physical therapy (PT) works on balance, coordination, endurance, flexibility, mobility, posture, strength, and gross motor function. The location for PT may influence the type of PT your child receives. For example, school-based PT focuses on skills for functioning at school.
- Speech therapy (ST) addresses issues of articulation, voice, resonance, fluency, and feeding and swallowing dysfunction.
